Pocky! Japanese candy!

•October 10, 2011 • Leave a Comment

I’m fond of Japanese candy. Why? Because they are more special for me to get then any other regular candy. You got LOADS of different candies in Japan and they are sold soo good! I order them at Jbox.com I only dislike the shipping price so if I can I order with a few friends and share the shipping cost. It’s easier, cheaper and you can get more without paying a lot for the shipping! I like it, that’s what I tell you.

The thing about Japanese candy is that they are NOT easy to find! Unless you live in Japan yourself.

There are different brands that make these candies. Here’s a small list
– Meiji
– Glico
– Nestle
– Nabisco
-Morinaga
– Eiwa

And offcourse there are more brands that make these candies but I will keep the list short. Up next is… delicious candies! So they have marshmellows, pocky, different kitkat’s (Not the chocolate we know), oreo kinds (with green tea!), bubblegum in the weirdest flavors, gummies, sweet candy in a can, candy cones and much much more.

On this picture you see loads of different candies from Japan. And a lot of different brands as I called above. I got a few favorites and to tell you, each season they come up with new candies or at least new flavors. For halloween they have pumpkin pocky! For the winter, special winter chocolate! I can’t wait till I can order again actually but I have no money at the moment.

Now I shall give you some examples of the candy that’s bought the most in Japan. Pocky!

With doing a bit research I figured out when the first pocky was made, the original selling date was in 1966! It contains a stick, covered with chocolate. This original was soon followed by ‘Almond pocky’  in 1971. And after that one came the strawberry pocky in 1977! Today we have a lot of different flavors, sizes and boxes. Each containing their own pocky sticks.

Flavors I have found, too bad I haven’t tasted them all yet!
Chocolate, strawberry, almond,  honey (Only in spring), kiwifruit mango (Only in summer), grape, melon, green tea, kobe wine, five-fusion berry, banana, caramell, pumpkin, royal milk, honey and milk, cream cheese, berry, sweet potato, coconut, crunchy, pineapple, hazelnut, kurogoma (Black sesame), kinako (soy bean flavor), marron, blueberry, apple yoghurt, orange, tiramisu, chocolat banana, marron white and mixed berry.

A picture from all different kinds of pocky. Including flavors I called up above. Want to try some now?

We all have our dream room, but to make our dream room true takes some time and specially saving money. The things we want are not always cheap and in most way actually pretty expensive. So, today I will show you a few nice rooms, to get YOU inspired for your dream room, unless you already have your dream room. Get inspired for new ideas for maybe changing your room. You can decide if you want it in one style or… maybe a few matched together?

How about a book/movie themed room?

This harry potter room looks simple and pretty awesome too, it has as you can see, things that exactly refer towards the Harry potter books & Movies but it also has a bit of  items that seem to ‘match’ the rest of the room. I actually don’t think the painting (or maybe it’s a sticker) was easy to make!

This purple/pinkish room does suit me, I love those bright colors, it’s big, spacy and you can put loads of stuff in your room. It’s good bombined with a few other colors. It includes: White, black, purple and some pink. As I can see this is a low sleeper, nice!

Hmm.. an old classy room, looks a bit romantic too don’t you think? I actually don’t know if I would feel comfy in this room, looks a bit to classy for me!

This room looks very nice, simple, but cute. Nicely decorated with cute pillows and different matching colors. Yep, I like this room, what do you think of it?

Well.. even with a few pictures I’m inspired much and I guess I will start to design how I want my room. Got loads of ideas to work out! Now to only make my dream room and make it come true!

Sleep, we love it

•October 6, 2011 • Leave a Comment

Sleep, we ALL love it. Especially when you wake up from a good night of sleep, you feel a lot better! A lot of years ago, sleep wasn’t something we should get, from the old myths, but with the time being we all seem to understand how sleep is healthy and well-being for us! In fact, when we sleep, we decrease our changes on getting deceases! So sleeping for 6 a 7 hours seems pretty good for your body!

Here 10 reasons why we actually need to sleep often! Or what it does for us.

1. Sleep keeps your heart healthy! Heart attacks and strokes are more common these days, specially in the morning hours. This is a fact that can be explained with the way sleep interacts with our blood vessels. . Lack of sleep has been associated with worsening of blood pressure and cholesterol. ALL risk factors for the heart to get a heart attack, a disease or a stroke. Your heart will be healthier when you get 6 or 7 hours sleep a day.

2. Sleep MAY prevent cancer. People who work late each day have a higher risk to get cancer, I don’t know if I should believe this though but I will tell something about it anyway. Specially breast and colon cancer is what people can get. Researches believe this link is caused by different levels of melatodin, a hormone that both makes us sleepy and is thought to protect against cancer. Melatonin appears to suppress the growth of tumors. Be sure that your bedroom is dark to help your body produce the melatonin it needs.

3. Sleep reduces stress. I agree on this one, sleeping is very good for your body. When your body is sleep deficient, it goes into a state of stress. The body’s functions are put on high alert which causes an increase in blood pressure and a production of stress hormones. Higher blood pressure increases your risk for heart attacks and strokes. The stress hormones also, unfortunately, make it harder for you to sleep

4. Sleep Reduces Inflammation. The increase in stress hormones raises the level of inflammation in your body, also creating more risk for heart-related conditions, as well as cancer and diabetes. Inflammation is thought to one of the causes of the deterioration of your body as you age. Inflammation is an immune reaction on a cellular level to an irritant. Inflammation can show up on our sking in the form of puffiness, wrinkles, enlarged pores, sagging, blotchiness, and reddening of the skin.

5. Sleep makes you more alert! Of course, a good night’s sleep makes you feel energized and alert the next day. Being engaged and active not only feels great, it increases your chances for another good night’s sleep. When you wake up feeling refreshed, use that energy to get out into the daylight, do active things, and be engaged in your world. You’ll sleep better the next night and increase your daily energy level.

6. Sleep bolsters your memory. Researchers do not fully understand why we sleep and dream. But a process called memory consolidation occurs during sleep. Your body is resting but your mind is still working his fullest. Sleep gives your brain a time to connect all these things together. It will help you remind things better.

7. Sleep MAY help you loose weight. Researchers have also found that people who sleep less than seven hours per night are more likely to be overweight or obese. It is thought that the lack of sleep impacts the balance of hormones in the body that affect appetite. The hormones ghrelin and leptin, important for the regulation of appetite, have been found to be disrupted by lack of sleep. So be sure to get some good night sleep!

8. Naps make you smarter. I don’t know, never took naps only in my younger years I slept more then 1 time a day. It’s not only effective and refreshing, it can also protect your health and make you more productive. Napping is also very good from stress releave and for your heart. So if you can take a nap, take one!

9. Sleep may reduce your risk for depression. leep impacts many of the chemicals in your body, including serotonin. People with a deficiency in serotonin are more likely to suffer from depression. You can help to prevent depression by making sure you are getting the right amount of sleep, between 7 and 9 hours each night.

10. Sleep helps the body to repair. This is a very very important point for us all. If we don’t sleep our body can’t repair, it can’t get your stress away or let you be calm for just a second. Your cells make more protein when you are asleep, they are there to repair any damage you got through the day, even for UV light.

Do you still think sleeping is just a waste of time? Or do you consider that three hours of sleep is NEVER long enough for your body to repair?

Japanese fashion!

•October 6, 2011 • Leave a Comment

Fashion is always changing, each minute, hour, day, month. Every day people design something new, make it wearable and give it to the world to wear. I love the fashion from Japan, it’s cute, wearable on the streets AND on nights out. You can combine a lot together, go for a classic look, a street look, a punkish look or any look you want. To show of some examples of different looks there, here are some pictures.

So we have ‘season outfits’. Mostly worn with jeans, high boots, a sweet top with most of the time long sleeves. Wearable on each day of the week, this time a summerish look because she’s wearing hotpants. I like the top and the expression of this girl, it gives the outfit a ‘cute fibrant’ don’t you think? I might even want to buy this top! It even seems you can combine this top with any type of jeans or skirt!

This dress is very cute for the summer, to bad summer is over already. But if you combine it with trousers it would still be cute for spring, autumn or winter. For the winter you can use a cozy vest over it! It’s such a summer dress, with a cute detail and a nice color of pink.  It’s btw gettable in more colors, a black/pink one, a white/pink one and a blue/pink one.

This outfit would be perfect for the winter! Long sleeves, it looks cozy and warm. It’s perfect to combine with neat trousers. And if you find it plain boring, just place  a belt around your waist on top of the shirt or a bigger necklace to give it more color. You can even wear it with a skirt and a legging, short boots and a cute little hat! Perfect christmas combination? I would say yes.

To top this post off, here some more outfits and even the webstore where you can buy these cute clothes!

Bento boxes!

•October 6, 2011 • Leave a Comment

At this moment I’m saving my money for buying my first bento box. I get inspired by beautiful creations and simple recipes. The urge to make one on my own is there and let me tell you, I really can’t wait to make my first bento box! I like to make sushi and onigiri and I like to stand in the kitchen when I can. But making sushi or buying the ingredients, cost more for me then the time of making something. I made my first sushi about 2 months ago and for a first try, they where perfectly okay! You can even color your food with foodcoloring, so you can make a pink heart shaped onigiri for a bento box for your beloved one!

This bento box looks absolute delicious and perfect! I wished I could make mine already now, you can buy bento boxes in different sizes, from simple ones for one dish, to a bigger one for 2 dishes. You might even buy a box with 4 small boxes like this ones. Each filled up with a small different meal. Hmm tasty! Oh if I google for bento blogs I find such special and talented people who make brilliant bento boxes and even CUTE ones!

Look at this, soo cute, onigiri with faces and veggies and all kinds of different food in it. I really want to make my own now. In the beginning, I wondered how they could make perfect round eyes or mouths but later I found out you have cutters for that. Cutters for making cute small faces or letters. Even toothpicks can fancy up a simple and boring bento box. Never again, boring meals if you start on making those! But there is one thing, making a bento box can take up some of your free time. If you want you can make one each day or one each week. It’s up to you! An original bento box contains rice, fish or meat, one or more pickled or cooked vegatables usually in a box contained shape.

In Japan you can just order a bento or buy a complete one is a store if you don’t have time to make your own. Very handy for those there then, because these are always freshly made that day or in the evening before. So you always have a healthy meal through the day! We even have a lot of variaties in different bento’s. Just to name some we have: Hokaben is a bento from any type, gettable at a take-out bento store. Hayaben is ‘early bento’ which you eat before lunch and afterwards you have a real lunch. Kamameshi bento’s are sold at train stations and is served into a clay pot, this pot will be a souvenir for you.

Already want to make your own bento?

Scrub that skin!

•October 6, 2011 • Leave a Comment

Sooo… everybody knows a body scrub. Simply from your local store (or drugstore, this is just a regular store that does not sell drugs guys, it’s a store that sells all kinds of goods, like shampoo, haircolorings and such) or from a special store like The Body Shop. I often come there but I’m not always buying something. Simply because I’m not in the need of any items or I don’t have the money. Now what is scrubbing? Is it good or just very bad for your skin? Let me tell you the answer to that. Scrubbing is NOT bad! It removes death skin that you loose almost every day. Loosing them is natural, daily we loose over 1000 bodycells. This is the way our skin ‘will fix itself’ We can help our own skin by scrubbing!

Do we have reasons to scrub? Well there are a lot of reasons why scrubbing is good for you, let me tell you a few of those reasons! When you get older, it takes a longer time for your skin to ‘renew’ itself, young people get new bodycells within 20 till 28 days. By older people, this takes some more time.  Your body MAKES new cells as a reaction to the influence from outside like UV light and the outer atmosphere. Your skin can close itself and with a scrub you can help yourself to have a better and healthier skin. Every once in a while a scrub helps your skin, it can help for pimples and helps for a better perfusion. Also! If you scrub before you shave, it seems that your skin will get softer if you do that.  So scrubbing gives you a softened and relaxed feeling.

You have different scrubs, for face and the body. Both are different and you can almost never use a bodyscrub for your face. Why? A bodyscrub is coarser then a facialscrub. A scrub for your face is a nourishing and cleansing gel containing microspheres. If you massage your face softly it will remove dead cells and blackheads. Keep in mind that you must NOT come close to your eyes and mouth, these parts of the skin cannot handle a scrub very well. There are special libscrubs, but never use a scrub on your eyes. Scrubs for the body are coarser, you can also use a scrubglove. This skin is thicker and can handle a lot more then your facial skin. Massage the scrub all over your body but be carefull for your sensitive parts (I wouldn’t use scrub there if I where you) Afterwards wash it all off gently and use a bodylotion for your skin.

How many times may you scrub in a day, a week or a month? You can consider this with your skin type. Do you have a very dry and sensitive skin? Then use a scrub two times a month. Do you have normal to oily skin? Then you can scrub your skin one time towards two times a week. But be carefull, do not scrub to hard! Once you have removed dead skin cells you get to deal with tender, new skin cells. Better not scrub to hard because you will damage those new skin cells. Hope this post was something for you to learn about!

Starbucks frappuchino!

•October 6, 2011 • Leave a Comment

To start off with my very first blog post about something, I will write about starbucks, THE coffee shop everyone loves! Even if you don’t like coffee, they have coffee free drinks too! One of these are the frappuchino’s, although if you want a coffee free one you need to ask for a ‘cremé’ frappuchino. Gettable in different flavors, I like the chocolate cremé frappuchino a lot, that’s why I keep ordering that drink when I get the chance! And if you think you only have a few possiblities of a frappuchino, then you have it wrong! There are lots of different frappuchino’s!.

So to speak off that we have a lot of different types and variaties!

Variaties:
‘Light’ (Starbucks created a “Light” version which according to the company has 54% of the calories, 17% of the fat (0.5 g vs 3 g) and 52% of the carbohydrates of the original)
Decaffeinated
Crème (Basically a crème base WITHOUT coffee)
Vegan (This includes Soymilk)

Types:
Blended coffee
Blended crème
Juice blends (They came up with this drink in 2006, it’s made of real fruit juice with Tazo Tea and blended with ice)
Vivanno Nourishing Blends (These drinks come only in three different flavors)
Special versions (These are the seasonal ones)
Modifications (These can be double blended, made with more or less ice, it can also include espresso shots and flavored syrups)

Frappuchino’s can be made with ANY type of syrup and even any type of milk. Vanilla, SF Vanilla, Cinnamon Dolce, SF Cinnamon Dolce, Hazelnut, SF Hazelnut, Toffee Nut, Peppermint, Raspberry. All of these are served without whipped cream unless you ask for it. Seasonal Frappuccinos, such as Pumpkin Spice, Gingersnap, and Peppermint Mocha are also popular, and often contain special toppings, such as Pumpkin Spice powder or peppermint sugar sprinkles over peppermint whipped cream. (I wished we had those seasonal frappuchino’s here, I would love to try them! )

And to even speak off, we have bottled versions!:

  • Caramel – the most popular flavor made with a hint of caramel flavoring
  • Mocha – made with chocolate
  • Mocha Lite – made with chocolate and special creme to make it less fattening
  • Vanilla – a hint of vanilla flavoring
  • Coffee – similar to iced coffee
  • Strawberries & Crème – crème based and coffee-free
  • Mint Mocha (Limited Edition) – Since its addition in July 2005, it has appeared during the holiday seasons.
